Chickens come several ways: as hawks, peals, pox and coffee-flavored (chicory), BBQ’s, fried, in past little lumps called McNuggets and with their tail between their legs! You can get them in a basket, in a bucket or in a coop with fries.
The irony of working on a large scale is that Kikukawa’s staff fuss over millimeters. Yuji Tsuchiya, a veteran sales manager, leads us to a back corner of the main factory building. There, he runs his hands over a curved 2-mm-thick sheet of bronze: a sample of the panels used for the Bloomberg project. “This was a reject,” says Tsuchiya. He leans in and points out a welding seam so fine and faint that the untrained eye wouldn’t have a chance of spotting it. “The architects spotted it,” he says, shouting over the whining, clanging and buzzing sound of brute force being applied to metal, which comes from every direction.
• 445M2 can be TIG or MIG welded. Pre or post heating or post weld heat treatment are not required.
This fall, Stepp went public with his plans to get all this equipment up and running. The news brought reporters from the Wall Street Journal to town.

Let’s put in good word for the feedlot cowboy. That group of fellers that meet every mornin’ early at the horse barn, saddle up, get their instructions and ride off down the alley. These boys and ladies come from everywhere. Most are fair to middlin’ horsemen with some sort of rural background. A few have come in from the outside, doin’ ranch work. These particular buckaroos and brush poppers often have trouble adapting to a world of crowded pens, clangin’ gates and speedin’ feed trucks. They’re used to a little slower pace and the madhouse routine of pen checkin’, processin’, doctorin’, sortin’ and shippin’ leaves ‘em a little bamfoozled. Some of ‘em catch on and other’s just float around the yard hopin’a heifer will calve or a steer will get out on the road.
Hallett’s team was the first to fly to an Olympic Games, but things were a bit different in 1948 – the plane had to land at Darwin to refuel, overnight at Singapore, refuel at Calcutta, overnight at Karachi, overnight at Cairo and refuel at Tripoli.
Miraculously you are released. You wander into a nice bedded pen with some sort of gourmet dish in the bunk (prepared by a chef who builds his recipe on a computer then looks at the manure to see if you liked it?) Blaagh!
That left the Wounded Seagull – nicknamed because of his tall physique, wing-like arms and upturned hands – standing fourth in the world ratings, 1000 points behind Australian Wayne Bartholomew, then Cheyne Horan and Hawaiian Dane Kealoha, with only two events, the Pipeline Masters and the World Cup, to peg back the lead. It seemed impossible.

He knelt down to check the points and leaned a little to let the noon day sun shine light on the subject. Then he felt a stream of water cascading over his head and down the side of his face. It was warm.
Trapezoidal decking can be replaced by cassettes, narrow overlapping structural trays that work in a similar way to a structural deck spanning between rafters. While they can offer a monolithic ceiling appearance, cassette systems require additional consideration to overcome the inherent difficulties of thermal bridging and air leakage, because they do not provide a solid flat surface for the vapour control to lay on top and seal. The vapour control layer is required to span across the cassette tray and in some instances support the insulation. Care must be taken during installation to make sure that it is not damaged as this may reduce performance of the system in relation to air leakage performance and increase risk of condensation. Since the introduction of Part L2 of the Building Regulations and additional guidance such as Building Bulletin BB93 on the acoustic design of schools, issues such as perimeter sealing and acoustic flanking have led to a reduction in the use of cassette systems. However, with the inclusion of a secondary internal structural layer, they can be as effective as decking or liner systems.
The metal sheets are held in place with halter clips, which provide the load path to the structure. They can also move in relation to it, accommodating thermal expansion and contraction in the metal sheets. Movement is controlled by the inclusion of a single fixed point, which must be correctly calculated and engineered to counteract considerable in-plane forces caused by longer sheet lengths. Factors to consider include sheet length, pitch, material gauge, snow load and even the colour of the sheet. A fixed-point calculation should be provided for every project. It is imperative that a second fixed point is not introduced.
