If you choose to attend an expensive school and take out massive amounts of debt, you are responsible to pay the money back. People who are irresponsible borrowers and take out more loans than they need are no better than subprime mortgage borrowers who took out ARMs they really couldn’t afford. Take some responsibility for your actions. Borrower wisely and read the fine print before signing on the dotted line. Read the 6 page MPN you signed – It states you are responsible to pay the money back even if you don’t like the education you receive or if you are unable to find a job after graduation. If you can’t agree to those terms, don’t sign the form. Parents, teach your children basic financial literacy skills so they don’t get into trouble. Here’s a free financial literacy lesson for everyone: If you don’t pay accrued interest on any type of loan, that unpaid interest will be capitalized. That means it is added to your balance so you’ll be paying interest on interest. That goes for any loan – car, mortgage, student, etc. Even if you can’t make a full payment, pay your interest on all your loans.

Life in the Dark also coincides with The Felice Brothers’ 10th anniversary as a band. Hailed by the AV Club for a sound at once "timeless, yet tossed-off," they’ve released plenty of music over the past decade, often on their own without a record label, but the new album is the fullest realization yet of the band’s DIY tendencies. Self-produced by the musicians and engineered by James Felice (who also contributed accordion, keyboards and vocals), the Felice Brothers made Life in the Dark themselves in a garage on a farm in upstate New York, observed only by audience of poultry. Commenter: SamThe student loan machine is a huge bureaucracy run by those who are concerned with the proper handling of their complicated machine and are hardly aware of the students. As paradoxical as it sounds, this is none of their concern. Technique and intellect when not balanced with feelings and reason will inevitably lead to life defeating policies and destruction. A good example is the case of defaulted loans where perversely and in my opinion sadistically, students who couldn’t afford to pay back their loans in the first place are penalized an additional 25% or more and then are saddled with interest rates ranging from 8% – 19%. Quite easily, this situation spirals out of control and a vicious cycle is created where the student is likely to live with this debt for the rest of their lives – affecting not only his/her life, but the lives of their partner, children, parents and ultimately society. Considering the consequences, do we support a society that feels, that sees and reasons both with the mind as well as with the heart? In short, that is human. Or, on the other hand, do we prefer to trust our future to the machine with its team of technical-bureaucrats? Administrators faraway that don’t see the people or families whose lives they have destroyed.

For the record, until Jeff helped me fix it, my Norton tank half appeared to have been backed over by a dump truck. His hands moved surely, erasing my errors. Native Sun is a four-piece rock n roll band from Brooklyn. Loud and urgent, their music breeds a beautiful chaos evocative of each member’s experiences. Frontman Danny Gomez first met lead guitarist Jake Pflum while growing up in Florida. After years without contact they reconnected by chance on a random evening in the city, rekindling their friendship over their mutual obsession for The Rolling Stones and Velvet Underground. They immediately forced their best friend Alexis Castro to play drums (who had only just recently began teaching himself how to play). Bassist Mo Martinez uprooted to the city from Monterrey, Mexico. In hopes of playing music he reached out to Danny through mutual friends and naturally completed the band’s lineup.

What I learned that day, before I had linguistic confirmation that the bone I had injured was in some way “sacred” and “holy”, before I had pored over pictures of it, occupying the very middle of our bodies, holding up the spine, forming the basis for the nerves to our brains, the movement of our legs, was that the sacrum is central to us.
