You’re looking for fresh investment idea. You observe that a new AUD$1.6 billion , 42 km toll road bypass is being built around the north side of an inland regional city called Toowoomba, one of the wealthiest cities, per head of population, in the southern hemisphere. You observe, a couple of years ago, that a brand new international airport was built by a local company. This company also manufactures composite fibre bridges, which it exports to various countries, including the USA. Along the bypass, there are various exits. You might be thinking, I’ll build a petrol station and diner, just off an exit. You’ve read of Shell oil company representatives saying that the future of gravy to be made at petrol stations will be made from selling hot sit down meals. You do some research, and read about the famous Howard Johnson restaurant and motels, that were built along the freshly paved US interstate system. You start wondering if a similar chain would be a viable business model, along some of the fresh highways that are being built to service new Aussie mining areas. You decide to do some market research. You ask some truck drivers. They tell you sure, they’ll pay $10-$20 for a hot feed, 3 times a day. You drive up a highway, and you see what appears to be an aircraft hangar converted into a petrol station and diner. It looks very sturdy. You stop for lunch, and ask the proprietor who built the structure. Turns out, it was a guy who builds hangars , as a business. You go home and research hangars, and you discover Nissen and Quonset huts. You research how the 2″ x 2″ x 3/16th” T -bar , or T-section structural members are curved using an AUD $1500 pipe bending machine, 240v . You discover that the corrugated iron can be curved, using an AUD $2500 machine, also 240v. You read that the modern versions of Quonset huts have proven to be quite good at surviving hurricanes in America. Insurance companies like them.
