Another Newcastle-born artist, John Olson, brought fame to the city by winning the Archibald Prize in 2005, the Wynne Prize in 1969 and 1985, and the Sulman Prize in 1989. 

The Harlem Blues Project specializes in soulful New York blues with a twist! The band features blues masters Jerry Dugger, Junior Mack, and Barry Harrison plus a revolving cast of NYC’s finest blues musicians including Bill Sims Jr., Michael Hill, Irving Louis Lattin and Solomon Hicks. Jerry was raised in Harlem and caught the music bug early in life. A fateful walk through Washington Square Park found him being introduced to the New York City Blues scene by way of the now infamous Dan Lynch Blues Bar. Jerry spent the next thirteen years learning to play Bass and sing, while also hosting the Saturday and Sunday Blues Jams. There Jerry Shared his stage with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Copeland, James Cotton and many more Blues Artists. His Bass baritone voice and thunderous bass playing have earned him a place in New York’s Blues Hall of Fame. Jerry’s band "The Dugger Brothers" are a staple on the New York City Blues scene. Commenter: AngelaI went to college to get a bachelor and master’s degree in social work. My student loans were paid off evetually, but I could never find a full time social worker job that I liked or was good at. Mostly I could only get was part time work or grant funded positions (which means the money ran out after a couple of years.) Because the pressure was on to pay off my student loans I had to take jobs in other fields. Now I am starting a new career in nursing. I feel like I wasted my money going to school for social work. I pray that Ms. Moss and her daughter will be O.K.

 Cruise ships had visited Newcastle previously, but following feasibility studies in 2001, the Cruise Hunter project was set up in 2002 to evaluate the possibility of Newcastle and the Hunter becoming a destination for visiting cruise and naval vessels, and the six-star Europa was its first visitor.

Commenter: MarloesI graduated in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. I borrowed $11,625 federally and now owe $18,000. I also took separate loans with citibank (which totaled $13,700 and are now at $15,500) because I was told that I could only take out so much federally. I’m starting my life $33,500 in debt. My boyfriend and I are trying to pay both our loans off together, and he has another $27,000 to add on to that. $60,500 until I can start living freely. It was my understanding that a higher education would improve my future, not cripple it.
