He won the NSW and Australian men’s opens from 1969 to 1976, with injury breaking his run in 1977, and won the tricks eight times, the jump seven times and the slalom four times at the Australian titles from 1967 to 1979.
Does a family tryin’ to make a livin’ on 180 acres, work or worry less than the C.E.O. of General Motors? Does a migrant worker sleep any easier than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court? Does the editor/owner of a local newspaper put less effort into his job than the editor of the N.Y. Times?
“Humm,” I said, “You might could take advantage of that. If he’s not breedin’ your cows, maybe Fred could make a little off him when he’s ‘On the Road’ so to speak.”
Commenter: harold jonesSTUDENT LOANS FIND OUT THAT ANOTHER REASON FOR HIGH STUDENT LOANS IS TO EXAM WHAT STATE GOVERNMENT SPENT TO RUN STATE COLLEGES. COMPARE WHAT STATE GOVERNMENT SPENT 40 YEARS AGO WITH TODAY. MANY STATE GOVERNMENT ARE LIKE CALIFORNIA. IT REQUIRES 2/3 VOTE TO INCREASE INCOME TAXES. THIS UNDEMOCRATIC CONTROL BY A FEW THAT DONT WANT TO PAY FOR A HEALTHY FINANCED STATE. THEY ENJOY THE FAT INCOME BUT DONT WANT TO SUPPORT A COLLEGE EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE. THEY CAN AFFORD TO SEND THERE CHILDREN TO PRIVATE COLLEGES. THEY DONT NEED THE COMPETITION FROM FUTURE OBAMAS.

Now asleep in his chair, 89 years old. He has no scrapbook of his service, no contact with those of his caliber who went through the cauldron of war, no medals or pins commemorating his contribution. The only souvenir I’m aware of is his “coconut knife” US Navy issue, which he gave to his grandson. When the subject of war comes up his light-hearted response is, “I saved the world.”
Now I’m sittin’ out on the back porch one afternoon in my porch swing. It’s about 2:30. I’m done workin’. I’ve already thought up somethin’. I look out in the driveway and there’s my good dog and he has got a…and you know how you can tell it ain’t a jackrabbit? They aren’t black and white, they don’t have them big floppy ears, and he has got this rabbit between his teeth and he’s thrashin’ him like a shark with a ham hock! There’s dirt and leaves and brush and gravel flyin’ all over. I jumped up and grabbed that rabbit! “Go git in the pickup you *#@%5E…!” That rabbit looked bad. Looked like he caught on fire and somebody put him out with the weedeater!
Included in the video was “THE CULL”, a poem in which a young vet and an experienced cowman argue the merits of keeping or culling a cow. The cow described in the poem was definitely beyond “one more year”!
But comeback he did, only to be struck down by another tumour which he again beat. Add to that a list of injuries and Harris spent almost as much time in hospital beds as on horses.

Before he double-gloved up he asked if I would record his first C-section on film. I took his camera and snapped him poised above what appeared to be Plymouth Rock! He looked over his shoulder at me as I clicked on. Once he made his first incision, he peeled off the outer gloves and asked me to adjust the light. I moved George closer.
Then the new baby sniffs, or blinks, or sneezes, or wiggles an ear, and at that moment it feels as though a burden has been lifted from our shoulders. We did it. We did it again. Just regular common people like us, engaged in that age-old profession of stockman, have participated in a miracle; life being passed from one generation to the next.
It doesn’t just happen to vets! A pet shipping container arrived at the big city airport. As it was wending its way through the bowels of the baggage facility, one of the employees peeked into Skipper’s cage. She immediately removed the dog crate and called her supervisor. After some gentle nudging with a short stick they agreed that Skipper was stiff as a two by four and was, in fact, Dead!
I have never seen the Taj Mahal, the Vatican or Fort Knox, all monoliths wrapped in mystery, placed beyond politics, Google and the Rubix Cube. But I can now claim I have seen the FDA in the Land of Acronyms, Washington DC, and survived. In my case, it was the FDA, CVM … Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine.
