Commenter: JoyWhat we need is BANK reform. The bailout our government gave the banks? They were supposed to help people with that money by giving out loans. An article posted in the NY TIMES nearly immediately after the bailout complained – saying the bailout money instead of going for loans – was BEING KEPT BY THE BANKS. Our government handed these banks BILLIONS with no strings attached. And did they help the US? NO. They helped themselves and then once again tightened up their purse strings. I have ONE credit card – ONE. It’s small and I keep it for emergencies. In January they raised my rate to 18.9%. (GOOD THING I DON’T USE THE THING!) When I asked them WHY that is – I’d made no late payments – had no late fees – had always done things properly. When it came down to it a member of my bank said to me – we DO have to pay our employees. Bottom line? It’s all SELFISHNESS and GREED and these institutions are THIEVES. Oor government is letting them get away with it and NOT taking care of YOU and ME. FOR THE PEOPLE!

Even worse was the tone-deaf official announcement: “Facebook fosters a global community and, as surfing is a sport that celebrates and centers around community, we are proud to announce our media rights partnership with the platform.” (Cue vomit pantomimes.) The 2019 Pipe Masters was cancelled, for vague and unpersuasive reasons; so was this year’s Fiji event. The volume of online denunciations of the W.S.L. rose fearfully. Who were these kooks? (“Kook”—an all-purpose term of abuse in surf world.)

J.T. eventually made it to the cafe around noon to tell the story. Everyone said it sure gave new meaning to the term “gunning the engine!”

Then the chaos began! The steer was bangin’ the walls, jumpin’ the hay bales and charging anything that moved! Thinking clearly, Clark mounted the old tractor and parked it by the chicken house door.
