The saxophonist’s latest release is Classic! Live At Newport – his 20th and final album for Blue Note Records – and this engagement will pair his golden horn with the wonderfully adept rhythm section of pianist Lawrence Fields, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Lamy Istrefi Jr. As a leader, Joe Lovano has released some 26 albums since 1985′s Tones, Shapes & Colors (Soul Note) including his GRAMMY Award–winning 52nd Street Themes (Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, 2000). As a sideman, he’s worked with some of the best in the business including Steve Kuhn, Charlie Haden, and especially drummer Paul Motian with whom Lovano recorded seventeen albums from 1982–2006.
