Andres Jimenez is part of a wave of Colombian-American musicians who has been heavily influenced by folkloric music of Colombia such as Cumbia, Bullerengue, Musica de Banda (like Porros, Puyas, and Fandangos), Currulaos from the Colombian Pacific coast, among many other Colombian styles. However, Jimenez is able to find cultural and musical connections with music from Peru, Cuba, Brazil, New Orleans and Bebop. "Living in cities like Bogota, Orlando, Boston and New York have made me who I am, an immigrant open to new sounds, mentalities, opinions, and new cultures. I can truly say I have experienced what it is to be an immigrant and becoming an American truly is, which is not related to having a blue passport, but instead it is the capacity to connect with people form all over the world by relating to them because we live as a community in this country". Thanks to skin samples provided by scientists and museums in Switzerland, France and South Africa, a multidisciplinary team lead by Michel Milinkovitch, professor at the Department of Genetics and Evolution of the UNIGE Faculty of Science and Group Leader at the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, shows today that African elephant skin channels are true cracks caused by local bending stress due to the epidermis being hyper-keratinised, shedding-deficient, and growing on a lattice of millimetric elevations of the skin. Using a custom computer model, Antonio Martins, Ph.D. student in the Milinkovitch’s laboratory, showed that the combination of these three parameters is sufficient to cause mechanical bending stress to accumulate in between the skin elevations during the progressive thickening of the skin until cracks are formed.

This collaboration between new programming capabilities and tool design is what led Linda Tool, years later, to utilize circle-segment cutters for its aerospace projects. Open Mind had been recommended to Mr. Marino by Hermle, the supplier of Linda Tool’s five-axis machining centers, and provided demonstrations that spotlighted the unique capabilities of circle segment tooling.
